A nice stress free day within this madness

I'm off today after being on call to the ICU last night so just a couple thoughts. I want to tell you about how fantastic everyone I work with is out here. Just as an example, there is a wife that calls in to the ICU everyday for an update on her critically ill husband. This was told to me by the nurse in the ICU. Everyday the wife calls in and talks to the nurse taking care of her husband and gets a report on how he's doing. Then the wife asks to talk to the resident taking care of her husband and then asks to talk to the respiratory therapist and finally to talk to the doctor that is the attending. All of these healthcare attendants speak to the wife and likely generally give the same information. At one point early on in this patients course, the nurse told the wife that she was likely going to get the same information from each person and it might not be necessary to talk to each individual healthcare provider. The wife said, I know that might be true, but maybe I just might get one new piece of information from someone that might have been forgotten in your busy schedules. And so everyone speaks with her in the most patient manner. It really is beautiful. No-one is short or frustrated even with being so busy. I put myself in her place and think yeah I would do that too, but maybe not as graciously. I would be frantic and demanding. But she is not. She is just trying to get all the information she can. I'm impressed and humbled by how some of these families cope.

Ok, so Ive never been to the East Coast and decided on my day off I would drive to Central Park and take a walk. As I drove to Central Park, a drove near the Hudson River and all I could think about was Sully Sullenberger, a true hero, saying,"We're going to be in the Hudson"

The weather was horrible but it was still nice to get outside. I'll leave you with these pictures. That's all for now.
